Internship Experience
My experience at Hoosier Village has given me the opportunity to work in a long-term care and assisted living environment where I was able to support residents while also learning how healthcare teams operate behind the scenes. Throughout my time there, I worked closely with interdisciplinary teams during daily meetings, where different departments came together to discuss resident needs and care plans. This helped me understand how important communication and teamwork are in providing quality, patient-centered care.
I also gained experience with administrative and documentation tasks, including reviewing records, observing assessments, and ensuring information was accurate and up to date. Being involved in these processes showed me how much attention to detail matters in healthcare, especially when it comes to maintaining compliance and supporting patient safety. I even had the opportunity to assist with initiatives like absentee voting for residents, which allowed me to see how healthcare facilities support not just physical health, but overall well-being and quality of life.
Overall, this experience helped me grow both professionally and personally. I became more confident in a healthcare setting, improved my communication skills, and gained a deeper understanding of how different roles come together to support patients. Combined with my previous work experience, this has prepared me for a future career in healthcare administration, where I hope to improve systems, support healthcare teams, and enhance patient experiences.
